It seems a very athletic sport (I've watched the video sample). So is it something that requires fit people only to undertake.

You have to be as athletic as the reflections you see in them fair-ground mirrors.
All shapes and sizes play the game and play it well enough to compete with all other shapes and sizes. Size matters!!!................ NOT!
Most of any fitness, comes from the respiritory area. The ability to exert then regain breathing composure so are able to hold another breath again as soon as possible is a good thing ........... but those who are less fit, just exert less or spend longer 'floating' around on the surface where they can breath away until recovered (though they should sub-out so as to put a fresh player in).
If you make it to the pool, survive the game and make it to the pub - this fitness is deemed adequate enough.

I would normally go straight to the pub!
......but this game does look very attractive. I will venture to the pub, via a pool  |
