The following 'intro' bit, is as on our web-site www.seethegame.info (in the 'About' section) regarding an interest in:
Encouraging the game of Underwater Hockey to be part of the 2012 Olympic Games in Great Britain.

Intro
It just seems right that the Great British invention of the game of Underwater Hockey should be played for the first time in the Olympic Games, the first time the Olympic Games are held in Great Britain... 2012

More
When the Game is released from it's captive place of limited viewing (underwater), it is indeed (we believe) a fantastic spectator sport.
So when public soon get a sniff of organised footage of the gameplay (as the SeeTheGame project, sets out to produce) we think the media will be aroused and take to filming it in a suitable TV watchable manner...
Once this is seen, the Olympic Games is the perfect opportunity to present it:
*in a predesigned pool
*with predesigned camera setup
*predesigned screen relay to surface

A good idea. At least to bring it up as a suggestion, even it is too short a notice or there are not enough countries to participate.

To get the visuals going is just a great thing. I'm sure when people see what they are missing, they will love it.
That includes the media for future coverage of this underwater hockey dynamic sport game. The spectators will find it groovy as well.

Before the crash of this forum in May, I remember a good post about the requirements of the Olympic people. It mentioned something like the need for a new sport to be included was to be played in:
xyz number of continents, by:
xyz number of girls and guys, in:
xyz number of countries.

Then I remember a list going up to mention all the countires etc known to play underwater hockey at the moment. It was a good idea for a post, so I wondered if it may be being re-written somehow, so has a prescence again?

Thanks F Cool

Yerp indeed,

It was invented in UK.
It IS (IS!) a spectator sport.. (will be, when the media are educated)
It will be dynamic when given an arena for the large general public to see.
Arenas are built for the Olympics..
2012 Olympics are in UK
......so perfect opportunity.

Proposed Arena for thought:
If Ealing has/is building the pool with underwater hockey marked tiled bottom, then maybe it should be used as Olympic Arena instead of building new one.

Reason being this:

Quote:
If London is successful in winning the right to host the London 2012 Olympic Games, new competition-standard pools will be needed in the East of London. These pools will not be funded entirely from new, incremental sources. A whole host of Peters will be robbed to pay Olympic Paul.

The Sport England fund, for example, is due to be raided to the tune of 340 million to pay for the Games. A further 410 million will be top-skimmed from the Lottery before it even makes into the Good Causes funds of which sport is one of six.
Ref: http://downloads.ground-level.org/filer/londonpoolscampaigManilaWebsite/presentations/Submission_from_London_Pool.htm (Threat Posed by London Olympics)

Save a bit of money being sucked out of budget and reward the innovative thinking that the Ealing Council have/will be exercising in tiling there 50m pool.

Just a thought.

If the game is up and coming and already played around the world then it just needs an arena where the people can see it being played. So yep 2012 Olympics sounds good date for underwater hockey.
Dear Sir Coe...

Invented in UK, it would indeed be the suitable and rewarding launch opportunity into the Olympics, if shown for the first time in London at the 2012 Olympics.

As a visual sport, it is very dynamic. Now the cameras around UK seem to be learning the art of getting it above the water, the game can now be seen for what it really is - a dynamic team 'field' game.
Underwater Hockey, therefore would indeed make a great addition to the games of the 2012 Olympics.

As the game (Octopush) was invented in UK, then the London 2012 Olympics, would seem the perfect timing for Underwater Hockey to be introduced.

Conditions for entering a sport into the summer Olympics are quite tenuous:

It must fulfill amongst other conditions:
that a proposed sport need to be widely practised by men in 75 countries on four continents and by women in 40 countries on three continents.

Also, interesting info about the difficulties of getting a new sport into the Olympics, by the president of the USA, (er, not George), its the Underwater Society of America!!)
It will NOT happen in your life time nor next. President IOC (International Olympic Committee) says 'no new summer sports.' Sports being dropped from World Games, also called Olympics for non Olympic sports. Our SOC rep attends USOC meetings 4x year. No way will it happen. Do you know the qualifications to appy to be Olympic sport? need 50+ countries at WC. Fin Swimming met the standard, was accepted as potential Olympic sport in 1989 (I think year right); so been 17 years.......... standard is 25
years from acceptance to Program.

Quite a thing then, eh.

It wont happen? It is certainly less likely to happen, only because no-one can see the sport (it's not that hard to work out that the basic ingredient to assess anything is to know it... get to know it)... and if not a player, to date, there is little to reveal this game to the spectator audience.....

Initiatives like the SeeTheGame website are tackling the bottom line.

Results are good, even though it is a tiny little initiative, running on a 'slip-on budget' (would have been a shoe-string budget, if only they could afford the laces!.... as they ammusingly mention).

Interest is being generated from a small, but progressive level from general public at large, as well as media from USA and UK.

this sport will not make it onto the show piece of olympics, mainly because it has international divides, also in the uk there are ethical issues which has not, and will not be resolved, mainly due to barriers presented by certain individuals to cover each others own wrong doings!

the sport is and will remain a minority sport. Eventually it will cease to exist in the north of england......... the decline was put in motion 7 years plus ago, and when individuals chose to lie about others leaving them unable to participate due to fear and lies.
