The history of underwater hockey (octopush) - A brief saga:
once upon a time........
.......... there were a group of BSAC divers in the UK that got bored during the winter months when the seas were oh so stormy and cold. The year was 1954 and remember them with respect cus there were no warm comfy dry-suits in these rough and rough-it times.
The group used a swimming pool as a winter training place and to keep themselves amused they invented the idea of a game they could play in their pool.
This game they invented was first called 'Octopush', because they decided on having 8 players (octo) and they pushed (push) the puck (a lead weight) around the pool floor with a short hand held stick.
The game has developed since then and changed its name to underwater hockey.
the end
now the world plays it, and lives happily ever after.

errr..... according to a BSAC website link - it was invented in 1956!?
in the link it says this:
Members of the Southsea SAC in Hampshire invent Octopush as a way of keeping divers fit through the winter.
so should it be 1954 or 1956 or OTHER!?
the link can be found here:

1954 it is then!
They'll have to correct their chronalogical order in which the BSAC development is portrayed. The invention of Octopush should slot in to 1954, where the magazine Neptune was created..... I wonder if there is any mention of this 'new' game in the first issues of the magazine??
