Minds'Eye Lecture: MEL000
Underwater Hockey - Simplified.... "just add water"
.... has been published and launched on the website today. It was two weeks behind the MEL001 because the Team Shape was the first idea to be thought good/helpful to visualise.... for people already coming to the pools.
This MindsEye Lecture, MEL000 was then thought to be missing! So it was scripted as a simplified intro to help ressolve the: "underwater what!? syndrome"
It is simple, but think it connects the unknown (non players) to the rough concept of the game of underwater hockey, by choosing to cover the three key points:
1. Underwater Hockey Arena
2. The Gist of what the aim of the game is about
3. Personal kit needed
Check it out, see if useful to you, or someone you know of.

Good idea to bring in a 'first/intro' to have a look at the gist of this wierd feeding frenzie game.
Underwater Hockey Arena... yep
Gist of the Game... yep
Personal Kit... yep
To liken it to Ice Hockey, is better than when people just say 'hockey', it resembles the 'ball' (puck) movement better. And to think of visualising the arena first, is a very methodical structure that allows grasp of, in this case, the Arena.
The finning characters in the animation are to be classics . I did wonder why there was only one player swimming at first - but do agree it allows an undisturbed view of the 'aim': set off - collect puck - push it into the gulley for a goal. That is incredibally simple and clear, so it was good idea with just one player to demo. The anim then brings in opponents, then brings in the whole teams and immediately you can see that it gets 'busy'.... but the point remains in the head: set off - collect puck - push it into the gulley for a goal.
The Kit bit is brilliant! Drag an drop in its simplicity and you see what kit is needed - rather than read a list. Its useful to 'learn' where on the body the kit goes as well - I tried inserting the pusher stick several places, before it 'dropped' in place
Again as from the other lecture review, I reitterate:
Good idea, good presentation, it will be helpful as a training tool. The MindsEye is a clever title for the Lectures. You dont see the wood for the trees when you first start looking at the game. It just seems chaotic, but this allows an overview to apply.

Great Education Tool
Great Education Tool
Great Education Tool
Works well, to educate and inform about something unseen, therefore unknown. Everybody uses their imagination when a true picture does not exist. This applies to most people as they havnt seen, dont know the game.
In schools, the few youngsters that play the sport of underwater hockey, often tell friends and class peers about their time spent at the weekend or evening - this often results in laughter and freedom for wild comment and sometimes childish flippent imaginations are a little confident draining.
These animations were shown at a school (as a test) and the result (along with some video footage from Critter-Cam-Diaries) was a room full of questions - all of which were constructive!
The lectures put the 'overview' picture really well and really clearly. I'm sure it would be beneficial to adults as well, just simply to reveal the broad yet simple concept of underwater hockey --- to the minds' eye!

yes, it is a great education tool. the key points are very substantial, the story structure is methodical and logical, the timing is fair and at the end the summary page consolodates the key points well. with choice of watching from certain points as well.
an AVI/MPG would give more 'watch that bit again' control, but would not offer the drag and drop interactive ability that has been created (effectively created for newbies).
also i think it is structured OK to be used as a training tool directly - for interested individuals to watch and learn. Also for group learning / teaching. the webpage brought online in a lecture room or wireless laptop type set up - then the captions read out and may be elaborated / expanded as the animations flow along.
these education tools now exist as a product. nice one.

Its a good idea and a very apt title. It does place underwater hockey in the minds eye that a player can relate to when in the water - in what used to be apparent chaos (to new players that is), which is in the title ''for newbies''.
Not seen anything like it, so is good that the idea has been made into a product. Now people can use it. comment on it or perhaps even be inspired to make there own. Either way, it is inspiring
should be accompanied by a WARNING: do not fin like this!

Armchair Dry People!!!
Good idea. Not seen this anywhere yet and is a way of showing armchair dry people a bit of how the game is played out by the otherwise unseen (to a spectator) players.
Very simple.... but a good start. Will inspire more to follow suit I',m sure.
Good Effort

Good for those that dont know. Good stimulus for those that do know - as they do show them or maybe stimulated to do their own..... start the ball rolling.

NEW NEW NEW... yes!
yes i noticed that as well - they are 2min30secs instead of 4ish and they are flv movies as well. This adaptation makes them a punchy little education tool that'll keep concentration
if they are going too fast, you can always pause and rewind/replay etc
the video page looks neat as well. great evolution. good effort
